Welcome Class of 2012!
The Black Student Alliance at Yale (BSAY) is an umbrella organization for social, political and cultural events in the Black Community at Yale. We have meetings every week to discuss different topics of interest regarding the black community at Yale and in the world. In addition to weekly meetings, we sponsor cultural and talent shows and various parties at the Afro American Cultural Center and elsewhere on campus. Last spring semester we hosted the 2nd Annual XPlosion! CT Intercollegiate Performance Competition, which brought student groups from all over Connecticut to share their talents in dance, step, and vocals and we look forward to hosting more exciting events this semester. We are also a political organization, getting involved in political events on campus and in New Haven.
Our commitment to community both on the local and national levels is integral to our mission as black students at Yale. We serve the community with several mentor and tutoring programs as well as participation in big events like the Annual AIDS Walk New Haven and Communiversity Day, a campus-wide day of service for New Haven children.
The Black Solidarity Conference (BSC) brings black students from colleges all over the country to Yale for three days to discuss important topics in the black community. Last year’s conference, entitled Call to Arms: Battling Complacency, Igniting the Revolution!, featured keynote speaker, Jeff "Cousin Jeff" Johnson and was a great success. We are planning even bigger things with this year's BSC!
We hope you are excited to join us this year for the many events we have planned. Be sure to check out our first few meetings of the year. We look forward to the fresh and insightful perspectives you will bring to BSAY. Welcome!
